Replica Watches in 2026: What Has Actually Changed?

Now that 2026 is already halfway through, the major watch brands have released their new models for the year. However, we have not yet seen many truly convincing replicas reach the market. It is certain that some factories are already producing these new releases, but the quality is unlikely to be top-tier at this stage. In other words, the true “super clones” have not arrived yet.

At the moment, the two Rolex models that come closest to super-clone standards are the Ombre Green Datejust and the panda-dial Daytona with an exhibition caseback.

2026 Replica Watches Trend

The replica watch world of four or five years ago was very different from what it is today. Back then, the market was controlled by a small number of major factories. Because they had agreements with movement manufacturers, they held exclusive access to certain super clone movements. In the replica watch industry, the factories that control the movement often control the market. That is why major players such as Clean and VS were able to capture most of the market share through their movement advantages.

However, super clone movements are no longer exclusive to a single factory. At the same time, GM Factory has opened up a new direction in the Rolex market through weighted-case construction. These two developments have changed the replica watch market significantly.

Next, I will use several examples to discuss the three major changes currently taking place in the replica watch market, as well as the buying principles that consumers should continue to follow behind these changes.

The End of Movement Exclusivity

The movement is to a watch what the heart is to the human body: it is fundamental. For many years, competition in the replica watch market was, above all, a competition over movements. Whoever controlled the best clone movement for a particular series under a major brand could effectively dominate that segment of the market for the next several years.

Clean is a good example. Although the factory has now closed, I believe most experienced buyers have heard its story. After Noob shut down several years ago, Clean obtained the DD4130 movement originally developed by Noob. From that point on, Clean held the leading position in the replica Rolex Daytona market for many years. Its position was not seriously challenged until VS developed the DD4131 movement for the newer 12xxxx-generation Daytona models. This alone shows just how important the movement is.

However, the situation has changed. Today, more factories can obtain access to super clone movements, which has lowered the barrier to entering the market and producing high quality replica watches. That is one of the main reasons why so many new factory names have appeared in the past two years. More importantly, some of these newer watchmakers are now capable of competing directly with the long-established factories.

324 Movement Comparison
The movement on the left was introduced by a factory after the exclusive-use agreement for the 324 movement expired. It clearly features better engravings and finishing.

Why can they compete? First, they can also obtain super clone movements. Second, newer factories are often more willing to address the long-standing flaws that older factories have ignored. For example, after BB, DD, and APW gained access to the 324 super clone movement, they began improving issues found on models such as the Nautilus 5711 and Aquanaut, including inaccurate dial colors and movement engravings that were too shallow.

Aquanaut Watch Comparison
The Aquanaut on the left was introduced by a factory after the exclusive-use agreement for the movement expired. Its color is clearly closer to that of the genuine watch.

In the past, the 324 movement was controlled by a single factory. Because there was no real competition, that factory had little incentive to correct such obvious shortcomings. Now, that situation has changed. New factories are pushing the market forward, while older factories are also gradually beginning to listen more closely to customer feedback and improve their watches.

The Rise of Free-Sprung Clone Movements

At first, free-sprung movements were mainly introduced by relatively unknown factories. Now, however, even the major factories have begun pushing this type of movement forward. I believe this will become one of the industry’s main trends in the coming years.

Why is this happening? The answer can be found by looking back at what happened when GM Factory first began making weighted Rolex replicas several years ago.

At that time, the major factories producing super clone watches dominated the market. Smaller manufacturers that wanted to compete had to find a different path. Since many Rolex models are made in precious metals, some factories identified weight as an opportunity and began increasing the overall weight of their watches. The strategy worked. Weighted replicas quickly gained attention and eventually pushed the established major factories to develop weighted versions as well.

The free-sprung movements now appearing in Rolex replicas are following a very similar path. They were first brought to the market by lesser-known factories, but major brands have now started developing and producing free-sprung movements themselves. In that sense, the rise of free-sprung movements is repeating the same pattern once seen with weighted watches.

Hot Free-Sprung Balance Movements in Super Clones

3235 Free-Sprung Balance Movement

3235 Free Sprung

The 3235 has become one of the most discussed movements in the past two years. This year, the free-sprung balance versions of the movement have appeared on the market. There are mainly two versions, produced by different movement manufacturers.

The free-sprung 3235 movements are mainly used in replicas of Rolex Datejust, Yacht-Master, Sea-Dweller, and 41mm Submariner models. Please check the photo below, this is the first version of free-sprung 3235 movement, which features weights on the balance wheel, while the small post above the balance wheel is absent. This 3235 free-sprung movement is the most popular one.

There is also another version of the free-sprung 3235 movement. Its balance wheel does not have weights. Please check the photo below. Many people have questioned its stability, but in fact, this movement is also very stable. Now this movement is only used by one factory.

4131 Free-Sprung Balance Movement

4131 Free Sprung

In the past, the emergence of the 4131 movement had already shaken Clean Factory’s position in the Daytona market to some extent. Now, this free-sprung 4131 movement has further broken VS Factory’s monopoly in the replica Rolex Daytona field. Please check the picture below. The balance wheel of this free-sprung 4131 movement is equipped with weights. You can adjust the accuracy through these weights and the stud located above the balance wheel.

4401 Free-Sprung Balance Movement

4401 Free Sprung

The 4401 is the first free-sprung movement used in super clone Audemars Piguet watches. This movement is used in the AP 26240 and 26420 models. I already introduced this movement when discussing the AP 26240. It not only ensures that the overall thickness of the watch is consistent with the genuine model, but also realizes the flyback chronograph function.

4302 Free-Sprung Balance Movement

4302 Free Sprung

This is the second free-sprung movement used in the replica Audemars Piguet, and it is applied to the AP 15500. This movement has already been tested over a long period of time and has proven to be very stable and reliable.

Currently, the free-sprung 4302 movement is produced by two factories, and they are in direct competition with each other. One factory equips the balance wheel with weights, while the other does not. In fact, the 4302 movements from both factories are quite stable.

Weighted Replica Watches Are Still in Demand

Over the past two years, major factories competed fiercely in the weighted Day-Date field. Their marketing claims were also very aggressive, with many factories promoting their watches as having no peeling, no fading and other similar advantages. Today, the Day-Date category has almost reached a point where further competition is difficult, because most buyers have already accepted one or two factories as the leading options.

However, the popularity of weighted replica watches has not declined. Instead, many factories have shifted their attention to other Rolex collections, such as precious-metal Submariner, Datejust and Daytona models. Some factories have also started applying weighted construction to models from other brands.

Aquanaut Weight
The weight of the Aquanaut in the picture above is 124.1 grams.

This is a positive development. After all, competition is what drives improvement. It is a good thing that factories are paying more attention to the weight of a watch, because whether a watch is close to the genuine weight is also one of the factors that affects the wearing experience.

FAQs

Are free-sprung movements better than regular clone movements?

Both are super clone movements. The free-sprung movements just do not have extra regulator. Actually free-sprung movements are not better than the regular clone movements in stability and accuracy, but they do have a closer outlook to genuine watch Calibres.

Does heavier always mean better?

No. A replica watch with a heavier weight does not mean it is a better one. In Rolex Day-Date replicas, we know some factories like CBD are making replicas with heavier weight than the other watch makers, but their Day-Date replicas are not as good as the ones made by RC. Weight is one of the factors you need to consider, some other factors may be more important, like movement and finish.

What should people pay attention to when judging a replica watch in 2026?

In 2026, buyers should look beyond the factory name and movement description. Important details include case shape, lug profile, dial color, printing quality, hand finishing, date window position, bracelet comfort, clasp feel, bezel texture, weight balance and long-term movement stability. A truly good replica is not only convincing in photos, but also comfortable and believable on the wrist.

Is a free-sprung movement necessary when buying a Rolex replica?

Not necessarily. A free-sprung movement is an important technical feature, especially because genuine modern Rolex movements use this type of balance system. However, it should not be treated as a must-have for every buyer. Stability, reliability and real-world performance are more important than the name of the balance system. A mature regulated clone movement can sometimes be more reliable than a new free-sprung movement that has not yet been fully tested by the market.
